John in Vanuatu

As promised, here is an update from the Morahan trip to Vanuatu. I took a grand total of 3 photos on the trip, so credit must go to Mum, Matt and Erin for the following shots.

Me, Matt and Mum about to lift off.

Matt and the welcoming party at Port Vila airport.

Chris, me and Matt playing frisbee outside the airport.

Us in the pool at the Coconut Palms Resort in Port Vila.

Us getting rained on.

The Morahan posse enters town. Actually we look like a really crap boyband.

Eating somewhere in Port Vila.

Having a rest in the Port Vila CBD.

Group shot back at our resort.

Waiting for the ferry across to Hideaway Island (in the background). It's home to the world's only underwater post office would you believe.

Matt looking out for coconuts.

Chris, Lit and Mum snorkelling at Hideaway Island. It was the mintiest snorkelling - heaps of fish, coral and colours.

In the shade at Hideaway Island.

We took a glass-bottomed boat cruise at Hideaway Island. Saw heaps more fish and coral and colours. Doesn't look nearly as impressive on camera though.

On the boat.

This is at a market in Port Vila. Chris has got a big leaf.

Mum, Chris and Matt trying to rip off that cute little kid. Boo!

This is on the island of Tanna now, a quick stop at the petrol station.

This is at Tanna airport. From here we took a 2 hour 4wd ride, plus a 2 hour tyre puncture stop, to the Friendly Bungalows where we stayed for 4 nights. The roads were terrible and our bottoms paid a heavy price.

In the shade during the tyre puncture stop.

The Friendly Bungalows. I thought I knew a thing or two about budget accommodation but I had nothing on Chris, who booked this place. At least there was some electricity, if only for 3 hours a day.

Me chillin at the beach.

Lit, Mum and a bungalow.

My toy's cooler.

Us with a really big tree. This is the meeting place for the local village. That guy on the right took us round his village and showed us heaps of stuff. The little kid in the previous photo was his son.

Me and a pig. I'm on the left.

Mum with the locals.

And again. The (other) old lady is the mother of that guy who showed us round. She's making some traditional food or summat.

Erin and Lit with that kid again.

Us in front of Mount Yassur, an active volcano whoot.

Mount Yassur again.

And again. The landscape around it was pretty mint, it was all desolate and barren.

And again.

I think Matt's doing the moonwalk or something.

Dunno why me and Chris are running away, maybe we heard an eruption.

Some lava and crud erupting. The scariest thing was the sound it made when it erupted every 5 minutes or so. Something like a deep rumbling then a massive explosion.

Look out behind you! Erin putting on a brave face.

More eruption. We took heaps of photos of the eruptions but they don't really look very impressive, compared with being there.

The tracks are from a turtle that crawled ashore to lay some eggs. This is back at the Friendly Bungalows.

Me and Matt in a mangrove tree I believe. It was weird looking anyway (the tree, obviously).

Us waiting for tea at the Friendly Bungalows.

Bungalow.

Playing cards.

This is a hot spring. That guy with the floral top and the machete put some bananas in to cook for us. They were gross.

Us with Port Resolution in the background. That crud on our faces is clay/mud from the thermal spring.

Lit and Chris getting steamed on.

Me, Chris and Lit.

Us and Port Resolution again.

Swimming/snorkelling at Port Resolution. Mum's choking.

From the Friendly Bungalows we moved to the Whitegrass Resort. It was much poncier and had 24 hour electricity whoot. This is sunset there. I think Mum's falling over.

Whitegrass Resort again.

Erin and a horse.

The girls in the pool at Whitegrass Resort.

Us at the Blue Hole, near Whitegrass Resort.

The girls' faces spoiling an otherwise lovely family shot at Whitegrass.

Our flight from Tanna back to Port Vila. We thought they were joking.

I drew the short straw and had to be pilot. Actually the co-pilot made me promise not to push any buttons.

Back in NZ! We took a harbour cruise in Auckland.

So that was the Morahan trip to Vanuatu. In other news I've finally got my visa so will be going back to London next week.
